I am always eager to hear a good story.
I’ve lived in many different places and always consider myself lucky to find locals who are willing to talk to me about their lives. Born and raised in the Northeast, I first travelled South to attend the University of Virginia. I later earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Johns Hopkins University and have worked as a writer and researcher, college and high school teacher, oral history interviewer, blogger, and local history educator. I am the mother of two extraordinary daughters and live with my partner and two lovable mid-sized mutts in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
